Galaxy Watch Active2 Supports Blood Pressure Measurement Feature
Must Download 'Samsung Health Monitor' App from Galaxy Store
Measurement Possible After Entering Reference Blood Pressure with Cuff Blood Pressure Monitor
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics will launch the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app, which can measure blood pressure with a smartwatch, on the 18th. Once the app is installed, this feature can be used on the Galaxy Watch Active 2.
On this day, Samsung Electronics announced that Galaxy Watch Active 2 users can easily measure their blood pressure by updating to the latest watch firmware through the Galaxy Wearable app and then downloading the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app from the Galaxy Store.
To measure and manage blood pressure using the Samsung Health Monitor app, users must first enter a baseline blood pressure value measured with a cuff blood pressure monitor after launching the app. Thereafter, blood pressure can be measured anytime and anywhere using the smartwatch's heart rate sensor. The blood pressure measurement principle is to analyze the pulse waveform measured by the smartwatch by comparing it with the baseline blood pressure to display blood pressure and pulse rate. The baseline blood pressure must be recalibrated every four weeks using a cuff blood pressure monitor.
Blood pressure measured through the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app can be checked via both the smartwatch and smartphone. Users can view blood pressure trends daily, weekly, and monthly, and save and share the data as a PDF file.
The 'Samsung Health Monitor' app is only available on Samsung smartphones running Android 7.0 or higher. It supports the Galaxy Watch Active 2, which has the relevant built-in sensors, and will also be supported on future smartwatches with blood pressure measurement functionality.
The electrocardiogram (ECG) measurement feature, which received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in May, is expected to be supported through an update to the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app in the third quarter of this year.
Yang Taejong, Executive Vice President of the Health Team at Samsung Electronics' Wireless Business Division, said, "The launch of the 'Samsung Health Monitor' app demonstrates Samsung's commitment to providing convenient healthcare services to more people by combining cutting-edge hardware and software," adding, "We will strive to support more Galaxy users not only through the Galaxy Watch Active 2 but also through watches released in the future.”
