[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Ju-hyung] The first nationwide joint academic assessment (mock exam) of 2020 for 11th-grade students will be held on the 16th in 16 cities and provinces across the country, excluding Seoul.
The June mock exam, organized by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, was originally scheduled for the 18th for both 10th and 11th graders to take together. However, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the 11th graders will take the exam on the 16th, and the 10th graders on the 18th.
The June mock exam held on the 16th is the first offline mock exam for 11th graders this year. The March mock exam conducted on April 24 was held online due to the delay in school attendance, and the mock exam organized by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 21st of last month was conducted only for 12th-grade students.
This mock exam will cover five subjects: Korean, Mathematics, English, Korean History, and Inquiry (Social Studies and Science). Unlike last year, Mathematics will be administered in a common format without division into Type A and Type B, and in the Inquiry section, students can choose up to two subjects without distinction between Social Studies and Science.
The exam schedule is as follows: △1st period Korean from 8:40 AM to 10:00 AM (80 minutes) △2nd period Mathematics from 10:30 AM to 12:10 PM (100 minutes) △3rd period English from 1:30 PM to 2:40 PM (70 minutes) △4th period Korean History and Inquiry from 3:10 PM to 4:52 PM (102 minutes).
Additionally, to minimize contact between students in accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, the lunch break has been extended from the usual 50 minutes to 70 minutes, an increase of 20 minutes.
Individual scores including standard scores and percentile ranks for this mock exam will be provided to each school by July 6. Meanwhile, after the exam ends, EBSi and major entrance exam companies will release expected cutoff scores for each subject area.
