Creation of a Digital Book Experience Space at Geumcheon-gu Miraehyanggi Small Library

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) has been finally selected for the ‘2020 Regional-linked Digital Book Experience Space Creation Support Project’ organized by the Korea Publication Culture Promotion Agency, and will newly create a digital book experience space at Miraehyanggi Small Library.

The ‘Regional-linked Digital Book Experience Space Creation Support Project’ is a project to promote digital reading culture by supporting the creation of e-book experience spaces in public facilities, local libraries, and schools, with a national subsidy of 18 million KRW.

Through this project, Miraehyanggi Small Library will create a space where digital book content and dedicated devices can be freely experienced by July, and from August, it plans to conduct ‘digital book usage education’ and ‘digital book demonstration and experience events’ in reading programs and reading culture events so that users can access various digital contents.

The library plans initial major programs such as ‘Knock! Knock! E-book Experience Center’, ‘E-books and Slow Reading’, and ‘My Own Digital Book’.

‘Knock! Knock! E-book Experience Center’ provides various e-book experiences such as large print audiobooks, a cat robot that reads books aloud, and Shakespeare classic audiobooks to various users including daycare centers, local children’s centers, disability organizations, and families.

‘E-books and Slow Reading’ is a program aimed at elementary school students that stimulates interest in reading by listening to book content through e-books and reading aloud with paper books.

Also, ‘My Own Digital Book’ offers an opportunity to create a personal digital book linked to youth career education to strengthen information and media utilization education in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Opened on the first floor of Doksan 2-dong Community Center in June 2018, Miraehyanggi Small Library operates innovative creative convergence programs suitable for each generation as a leading library of the 4th Industrial Revolution, including ‘Maker Programs’, ‘Fairy Tale Programs’ conducted by youth, and ‘Human Library’ where knowledge and experiences are shared through human books.

Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, “In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, consumption of digital content is rapidly increasing, and the importance of digital information is spreading quickly,” adding, “We will do our best to build beneficial digital infrastructure so that residents can overcome the information gap and feel the convenience of using digital content.”
