According to local media such as The Jakarta Post on the 9th, Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, recently stated at a cabinet meeting, "We plan to add infrastructure projects to the existing 223 projects until 2024." He added, "Starting with creating 4 million jobs this year, we will provide a total of 19 million jobs by 2024."

The 89 newly promoted projects include 15 highways and bridges, 13 dams and irrigation systems, border area infrastructure, and 12 energy projects. In addition, railways, water supply systems, and airports will be constructed, along with the development of 5 ports and 5 special industrial zones.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo emphasized at a briefing announcing additional national key industries, "Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, national strategic projects must continue to be promoted."

President Jokowi particularly stressed the promotion of programs to revitalize the 'people's economy,' mentioning land certification, large-scale relocation, land legalization, and social forestry programs.

He pointed out the procedural difficulties of land clearing projects, the biggest obstacle to national strategic projects, and ordered the prompt resolution of land issues.

The Indonesian government will also launch tourism revitalization projects. Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing, said at a briefing that five tourist destinations are included in the strategic projects.

These tourist destinations are Labuan Bajo in East Indonesia, famous for Komodo Island; Borobudur in Central Java; Likupang in North Sulawesi; Toba in East Sumatra; and Mandalika in West Lombok. A total of 4.2 trillion rupiah will be invested in these areas.

Minister Basuki also announced plans to promote toll road construction within this year. According to a World Bank (WB) report, the Indonesian government aims to open a total of 6,115 km of toll roads by 2025. Of these, 73% are led by the state-owned company Jasa Marga.
