[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) announced on the 8th that it has launched the Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia site, where all cultures of Haenam can be viewed at a glance.
The Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia is an online knowledge encyclopedia that compiles regional information including Haenam-gun's history and cultural heritage, as well as changes and developments in politics, economy, and society, providing online services via the internet and mobile platforms.
Since 2017, Haenam-gun, in collaboration with the Academy of Korean Studies, has been collecting, researching, and analyzing various cultural materials of Haenam-gun to systematically compile and digitize them as part of a regional culture compilation project.
The Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia consists of 1,322 entries across nine categories: geography and history of Haenam-gun, cultural heritage, surnames and figures, politics, economy, society, religion, culture and education, daily life and folklore, and oral traditions, language, and literature.
The content includes a vast amount of materials, totaling 13,491 manuscript pages and 2,293 multimedia contents including videos.
In particular, through the Haenam Cyber Relics Exhibition Hall in the archive, visitors can view relics and various artifacts excavated and investigated within the region.
Additionally, users can directly participate in the compilation through ‘My Haenam Encyclopedia,’ where they can correct errors found in registered articles via comments, supplement content, and even write new articles for unregistered entries.
The Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia site can be easily accessed by searching ‘Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia’ on the Haenam-gun official website, Naver, Daum portal sites, YouTube, and other platforms.
With the launch of the Digital Haenam Culture Encyclopedia, the limitations of existing printed publications have been overcome, establishing a knowledge information system that allows quick, accurate, and convenient searching and sharing of information and materials.
Myeong Hyun-gwan, Governor of Haenam-gun, stated, “With the establishment of a comprehensive digital encyclopedia covering Haenam-gun, we expect that anyone curious about Haenam can conveniently find information anytime and anywhere,” adding, “Especially, children growing up will be able to easily learn about Haenam-gun’s history and culture through diverse content, which is expected to have a significant educational effect.”
