Baek Jong-won Responds to SOS from Ham Young-jun... Limited Edition Odongtongmyeon with Two Pieces of Dasima Released

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Ham Young-jun, chairman of Ottogi, responded to Baek Jong-won's request to resolve the inventory of kelp from Wando, Jeollanam-do.

On the 8th, Ottogi announced the release of a limited edition Odongtongmyeon containing two pieces of clean kelp from Wando.

Ottogi’s ‘Odongtongmyeon’ is characterized by its plump noodles and spicy broth, and contains clean kelp from Wando, giving it a rich kelp aroma. The newly released limited edition Odongtongmyeon ‘Matnam-ui Gwangjang’ increased the amount of kelp from one piece to two to promote the consumption of kelp, a specialty product of the Wando region. The limited edition Odongtongmyeon features improved chewier noodles and a rich broth flavor and refreshing umami from the two pieces of kelp.

On the 4th, a scene of Baek and Chairman Ham talking on the phone was aired in the preview of the SBS entertainment program ‘Matnam-ui Gwangjang’.

Baek said, “Senior, there are 2,000 tons of kelp left. If ramen companies add one more piece of kelp each, it would be huge. Since it came to mind, let’s try it once.” Chairman Ham also expressed a positive stance, saying, “We currently have kelp in our product, but if we add about two pieces, it will have a much deeper flavor.” Afterwards, Ottogi prepared the limited edition release to coincide with the official broadcast.

An Ottogi official said, “We have released the Matnam-ui Gwangjang limited edition Odongtongmyeon containing two pieces of Wando kelp,” adding, “It is a product to promote the consumption of kelp, a specialty product of the Wando region.”

Meanwhile, Matnam-ui Gwangjang is a program produced with the purpose of helping struggling farmers and fishermen. In a previous broadcast, Baek asked Shin Yong-jin, vice chairman of Shinsegae, to purchase potatoes and sweet potatoes. At that time, it succeeded in selling out quickly, gaining public sympathy as ‘good consumption.’
