The Changnyeong Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 8th that they have booked the stepfather B (35) and the biological mother C (27) without detention on charges of abusing their daughter and are investigating them.
They are accused of habitually abusing their daughter A (9) from the year before last until recently.
The abuse by the couple was revealed when a citizen found a girl with bruises on her eyes at a convenience store in Daehap-myeon, Changnyeong, around 6:20 p.m. on the 29th of last month and reported it to the police.
At the time of discovery, A had bruises on her face and body, and severe wounds on her fingers and other areas were reported.
According to the police, A was habitually abused for over two years by her stepfather, including having her fingers burned with a frying pan. It was also revealed that the biological mother C had been suffering from schizophrenia for several years. A, who was abused, is currently under the protection of a child welfare institution.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the case against the abusive couple through medical diagnoses of A’s injuries.
