From Production to Disposal, Agricultural Products Also Had a 'Plan All Along'

Busan Food Plan Academy Special Lecture ... Finding Solutions for Regional Development through Food

From Production to Disposal, Agricultural Products Also Had a 'Plan All Along' Notice Promoting the Busan Food Plan Academy

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A citizen study room dealing with a comprehensive plan that integrates the management of the "life cycle of crops" from agricultural production to processing, distribution, consumption, and disposal will be operated.

Busan City announced on the 7th that it will operate the "Busan Food Plan Academy" under the slogan "Busan where all citizens are happy with food!" in a total of four sessions from the 8th to July 23.

The "Food Plan," promoted as a government innovation task, is a comprehensive plan that integrates all areas related to food, including agricultural production, processing, distribution, consumption, dietary habits, nutrition, and disposal.

It is also a plan to strengthen the public nature of food and establish a virtuous cycle system for local agricultural products within the region to achieve sustainable regional development.

This academy was prepared to raise the interest and understanding of Busan citizens and stakeholders in the food industry about the Food Plan and to establish sustainable food strategies.

The first special lecture of the academy held on the 8th will be conducted through lectures, discussions, and Q&A on three topics: proper food and ingredients (lecturer Kim Jin-young, CEO of Traveler's Table), national food policy direction (lecturer Shin Woo-sik, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs manager), and overseas food plan cases (lecturer Kim Jong-an, regional network representative).

Citizens attending the first lecture will be given priority to enroll in the advanced academy sessions 2 and 3. Any Busan citizen can participate.

Busan City secured 150 million KRW in service fees for the Food Plan promotion last year and started the service in November. On January 9 of this year, 48 working council members were appointed, and the first working council meeting was held.

The working council, composed of three subcommittees?food planning and coordination, public meals and welfare, and future generation food?is made up of city council members, professors, public officials, private experts, producers, and civic groups. Each subcommittee, with 15 to 18 members, holds monthly meetings on various topics and plans to reflect the discussions in the service.

A city official said, "Through collecting opinions from various organizations and citizens, we will create implementation tasks and promote policies that can practically help citizens through ordinance enactment to support the comprehensive food plan in the second half of this year, the formation of a public-private cooperative food committee, and a vision proclamation event."
