[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Patient A (61, female), the 37th confirmed case in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, who caused confusion in quarantine by reporting false movement routes, is presumed to have been infected by attendees of a revival meeting at a church in Bucheon-si.

On the 5th, Anyang City announced that Patient A attended a revival meeting at the Sanna San Blessing Church in Bucheon on the 27th of last month, and it appears she was infected by one of the attendees of this revival meeting.

Among the 8 attendees of the revival meeting, at least 3, including Patient A and two residents of Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, were confirmed positive.

Earlier, Patient A reported that she briefly spoke with the owner of a restaurant in Manan-gu, which a confirmed case had visited, on the 2nd, and then underwent testing for COVID-19.

Accordingly, the Anyang City health authorities conducted an epidemiological investigation based on Patient A’s statement.

However, since Patient A stated that the conversation with the restaurant owner lasted less than 5 minutes and both parties were wearing masks, authorities considered the possibility of infection elsewhere and proceeded with a reinvestigation.

During the reinvestigation, investigators found inconsistencies in the movement routes provided by Patient A and repeatedly confirmed the specific routes with her while she was hospitalized. Through this process, it was discovered that Patient A had reported false movement routes.

In the subsequent investigation, Patient A reportedly said she made the false report because her family opposed her church activities.

Meanwhile, the city health authorities stated that among the 10 people who had contact with Patient A and her husband B (64), who was confirmed positive on the 4th, during their visit to the Former Jeil Church in Anyang 3-dong on the 31st of last month, 7 residents of Anyang City all tested negative.
