'Tremor Phenomenon' Causes Delay in Genesis GV80 Diesel Model Delivery

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hyundai Motor Company will temporarily suspend the delivery of the Genesis GV80, which has encountered vibration defects in its diesel engine, to prepare countermeasures. After completing the validation of the solution's effectiveness, additional inspection schedules will be notified to the vehicle owners.

On the 5th, Genesis sent a notification message to GV80 delivery and contract customers stating that they will take prompt action regarding complaints about diesel engine vibrations and strive to minimize the delivery delay period.

Genesis explained, "Intermittent vibrations have been detected in some vehicles during prolonged low-speed, low-load driving (accelerator pedal pressed less than 20%), but this is unrelated to safety," adding, "The intermittent vibration phenomenon is due to combustion imbalance caused by abnormal carbon deposits inside the engine in some vehicles."

Genesis has developed solutions including control logic program updates and is currently conducting validation related to these measures. Once the validated countermeasures are finalized, additional inspection schedules will be announced via text messages.

The delivery of the GV80 diesel model, which has faced supply difficulties since its launch, is expected to be further delayed due to this measure. As of this date, approximately 14,000 Genesis GV80 units have been delivered, of which about 8,000 are diesel models. Additionally, around 10,000 GV80 buyers are currently waiting for vehicle delivery.

A Genesis official stated, "Delivery schedules will be individually notified later," and added, "We will strive to reduce the delivery period through the fastest possible measures."
