[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City (Mayor Ihwanju) announced on the 5th that it was selected as an excellent institution for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020 in the disaster management evaluation hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, being recognized as a local government that excels in disaster management.
According to the city, this evaluation was conducted targeting 326 disaster management responsible institutions (28 central ministries, 243 local governments, 55 public institutions) and was comprehensively carried out based on 39 indicators across 16 fields in each disaster management stage including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
In particular, this evaluation was based on 2019 performance and conducted from January to March through document review, interviews with institution heads, and on-site evaluations by evaluation committee visits.
In this evaluation, the city received excellent results evenly across each disaster management stage, including △Prevention stage - professional disaster and safety management education, promotion of safety education and cultural campaigns, comprehensive earthquake disaster prevention measures, strengthened safety management for vulnerable groups, activation of the Safety Report Center for health disaster mitigation activities △Preparedness stage - activation of autonomous disaster prevention groups, stockpiling and management of disaster management resources and updating of joint utilization systems, preparedness for summer and winter natural disasters △Response stage - formation, role assignment, and proficiency of disaster response task forces during disaster occurrence △Recovery stage - securing and managing disaster relief infrastructure, achieving the highest performance within Jeollabuk-do.
Mayor Ihwanju of Namwon said, “As a result of our efforts for the happiness and safety of citizens, we have achieved the great feat of being selected as an excellent institution for three consecutive years,” and added, “We will continue to work harder to make Namwon a better and safer place to live, and a city where people feel at ease.”
Meanwhile, local governments selected as excellent institutions in this evaluation are expected to receive benefits such as prize money, commendations, and special disaster safety grants.
