Gwangju City to Implement Resident Reporting System for Illegal Parking in School Zones Starting from the 8th Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that it will implement a resident reporting system for illegal parking and stopping within school zones of 157 elementary schools in the district starting from the 29th.

The resident reporting system for illegal parking and stopping within school zones was promoted to prevent safety accidents caused by illegal parking and to strengthen children's traffic safety.

Accordingly, the scope of the resident reporting system for illegal parking and stopping, which has been in operation since April last year in areas such as fire hydrants, street corners at intersections, bus stops, and crosswalk surroundings, will be expanded to include school zones.

The resident reporting system imposes fines based on residents' reports without the need for enforcement by local government officials. The enforcement hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

For example, if a vehicle is illegally parked on the road in front of an elementary school main gate, taking two or more photos at one-minute intervals from the same location showing the violation area, vehicle license plate clearly identifiable, and the shooting time displayed, and reporting it through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Safe Report app will result in a fine.

Gwangju City plans to conduct an administrative notice for 20 days starting from the 8th, followed by a guidance period until the end of next month, and will fully enforce the system from August 3rd. The fines are 80,000 KRW for passenger cars and 90,000 KRW for vans.

Park Gap-su, head of the city's Traffic Policy Division, said, “Since the enforcement of the Min-sik Act in March, we have been accelerating the expansion of traffic safety facilities such as installing unmanned enforcement cameras in school zones,” and added, “We ask citizens to actively cooperate by refraining from illegal parking within school zones to create a safe walking environment and protect children's lives.”
