514 Schools Adjust Attendance Days on the 5th... Ministry of Education Says "No Infections Within Schools" Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye (Provided by the Ministry of Education)

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the number of kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide with adjusted school attendance days as of the 5th increased by 3 locations (2 in Gyeonggi, 1 in Gyeongbuk) to a total of 514 compared to the previous day. The Ministry of Education reiterated that the 6 students and 4 staff members who tested positive for COVID-19 after attending school were "not infected within the school."

Jeong Wonsook, team leader of the Emergency Situation Room for Supporting In-Person Classes, explained, "After attending school, some were identified as contacts of confirmed cases or attended school asymptomatically but developed symptoms at school and were confirmed positive through testing by health authorities."

As of the 4th, 69,279 students and 6,911 staff members have been tested for COVID-19 after attending school.

Meanwhile, on the morning of the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye attended a remote meeting with the parent monitoring group of elementary and middle schools regarding in-person classes to discuss quarantine measures, academic operations, classes and evaluations, and support measures.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoo said, "We are making every effort to prevent dangerous situations at schools and have established an emergency response system to respond quickly when crises occur, cooperating closely 24 hours a day. We will strive to reflect the voices raised in the meeting as much as possible in formulating education policies."
