[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it released 100,000 juvenile black porgies (worth 35 million KRW) into the Wonpo waters of Gogeun-myeon to increase fishery resources and boost fishermen's income.
This release project, aimed at restoring black porgy resources, was carried out with free sponsorship from Taeseong Fisheries, and about 20 people including officials from Jindo-gun Fisheries Cooperative and the Wonpo Fishing Village Association in Gogeun-myeon attended.
The black porgy is an inshore species that inhabits sandy or rocky coastal areas with seaweed beds at depths within 50 meters, and in nature, it can grow to sizes exceeding 50 cm.
The black porgy is one of the representative fish preferred by consumers for sashimi and is considered a high-income species that helps increase fishermen's earnings.
An official from Jindo-gun Fisheries Cooperative said, “In addition to black porgy this year, we plan to focus on releasing species whose resources are declining by gathering opinions from fishermen. We will do our best to restore fishery resources and increase fishermen's income through continuous release projects.”
