Nowon-gu Operates 'Safe Customized Admission Package' Providing Free Career and College Admission Support

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is offering the ‘2020 Safe Customized College Admission Package’ free of charge to support students and parents facing difficulties in preparing for career paths and college admissions due to unexpected changes in the educational environment caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The package consists of three programs: ▲1:1 career and college admission consulting ▲Parent career and college admission academy ▲2021 College Admission Early Application Strategy Briefing. The goal is to provide accurate information through experts and to bridge the educational information gap.

First is the personalized 1:1 career and college admission consulting.

The target audience is students and parents residing in Nowon-gu or attending schools within the district. Each consultation lasts about one hour and is conducted in two phases.

The first phase runs from the 18th to July 31st and is open to all grades from elementary to high school. For elementary students through first-year middle school students, consultations are held three times daily from 2 PM to 5 PM on Mondays and Fridays. These sessions include learning style assessments and consultations on career paths and study methods based on parent-child relationships.

For students from second-year middle school to third-year high school, consultations focus on career aptitude, study management, and college admission counseling, held five times daily from 5 PM to 11 PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Registration opens at 10 AM on the 8th and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be submitted through the Nowon-gu Office website.

The second phase runs from August 1st to September 26th, targeting third-year high school students for early college admission counseling, with registration starting July 15th.

Consultations take place at the Self-Directed Learning Support Center counseling rooms located in Junggye 2 and 3-dong, Nowon-gu. If face-to-face consultations are not possible due to COVID-19, phone consultations will be provided.

Next is the Parent Career and College Admission Academy, scheduled to be held every Wednesday for two hours starting July 8th at the Lifelong Education Center auditorium. The program is divided into elementary, middle, and high school levels and offers lectures on understanding education and admission changes, career and college admission planning, and subject-specific self-directed learning methods for parents.

Lastly, the 2021 College Admission Early Application Strategy Briefing targets third-year high school students and parents curious about how to plan their early application strategies.

Following the great response from parents, with about 500 attendees at the college admission regular application strategy briefing held for the first time by the district last December, this year’s early application briefing will also be held.

The briefing provides valuable information for strategic early application support, including analysis and outlook of early admissions, timing strategies for early admissions and the CSAT, student records and personal statements, and interview strategies and responses.

For more detailed information, contact the Self-Directed Learning Support Center.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok stated, “As the education system becomes increasingly complex, expert information and advice will be a great help to students and parents,” and added, “We hope many students and parents facing difficulties with career and college admissions will show great interest.”
