[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon Tourism Organization is selecting and supporting new '2020 Incheon Representative Wellness Tourism Sites' in response to the increasing tourism demand pursuing improved quality of life through healing and health.
According to the organization on the 4th, this project is part of the medical tourism cluster contest led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. They plan to select a total of 10 sites, two each in five categories: food therapy, comprehensive healthcare, beauty & spa, healing & meditation, and nature & forest therapy, and focus on nurturing them.
Currently, Incheon has Paradise City Cimer and Cheongna Sparex designated as 'Recommended Wellness Tourism Sites' by the Ministry of Culture and the Korea Tourism Organization.
In line with this, the organization plans to newly discover wellness attractions this year, officially certify selected businesses as 'Incheon Representative Wellness Tourism Sites,' and provide various support such as online and offline promotion and product development through fam tours.
The target applicants are wellness tourism businesses within the region, and applications are accepted until the 12th. Final selection will be made through a first-round document evaluation and a second-round on-site inspection by an evaluation panel composed of tourism and wellness experts.
An official from Incheon Tourism Organization stated, "Wellness tourism is a high value-added tourism content with a wide range of related industries including medical tourism, beauty, spa, and traditional Korean medicine, which has a significant ripple effect on the local economy. We will strive to develop medical and wellness convergence products to attract overseas tourists and revitalize the tourism industry, which has been stagnated due to COVID-19."
