[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] Edwin Cardona of Colombia, who made a gesture belittling East Asians during a friendly match against the South Korean national football team, has joined the movement against anti-Black racism.

On the 3rd (Korean time), Cardona posted a black photo on his Instagram with the caption "BLACK LIVES MATTER #blackouttuesday."

The "Blackout Tuesday" movement, spreading worldwide through social media, refers to the anti-Black racism protests following the death of George Floyd due to excessive force by a white police officer in the United States.

However, in November 2017, during a friendly match between South Korea and Colombia held at Suwon World Cup Stadium in South Korea, Cardona made a gesture of pulling his eyes toward his temples directed at Ki Sung-yueng when the game became intense.

This gesture is widely known as discriminatory against East Asians.

Although Cardona was not disciplined during the match, Korean and international media reported the incident afterward, leading him to apologize via social media.

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) also imposed a five-match suspension from A matches and a fine on Cardona.

Netizens who saw this reacted with comments such as "Why is a racist joining the anti-Black racism movement?" and "It's like someone who hit others telling them not to hit."
