[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] On the 4th, the first heatwave advisory of the year was forecasted.
The Korea Meteorological Administration announced on the 3rd that it would issue a heatwave advisory at 11 a.m. on the 4th for Daegu, Changnyeong in Gyeongnam, and Cheongdo, Gimcheon, Chilgok, Seongju, Goryeong, and Gyeongsan in Gyeongbuk.
This is the first heatwave advisory of the year and the first advisory issued since the pilot operation of heatwave advisories based on the apparent temperature, which considers temperature and humidity, began last month.
According to the revised criteria, the KMA issues a heatwave advisory when the highest daily apparent temperature is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more consecutive days, and a heatwave warning when the highest daily apparent temperature is expected to be 35 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more consecutive days.
Although it is still early June, many parts of the country have already experienced midsummer-like weather.
On that day, the highest temperatures in Daegu and Pohang soared to 31.1 degrees Celsius, with Seoul at 28.4 degrees, Chuncheon at 29.2 degrees, Gumi at 29.7 degrees, and Ulsan at 28.6 degrees.
On the 4th, Cheongdo and Gyeongsan are expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius, while Daegu, Chilgok, Goryeong, Seongju, Gimcheon, and Changnyeong are predicted to rise to 34 degrees Celsius.
