[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A professor at Kyung Hee University accused of sexually assaulting a graduate student has been arrested.
On the 3rd, Judge Kwon Kyung-sun, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Western District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Professor A of Kyung Hee University, stating "there is a risk of evidence destruction and flight," based on the prosecution's application of quasi-rape charges.
Professor A is accused of sexually assaulting graduate student B, whom he was supervising, after drinking together in November last year when B lost consciousness. After the incident, victim B filed a complaint against Professor A with the police, and the Mapo Police Station in Seoul forwarded the case to the prosecution in March with a recommendation for indictment without detention.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office requested an arrest warrant for Professor A during the investigation, but it was dismissed; however, they re-applied for the warrant on the 29th of last month.
A Kyung Hee University official stated, "On the 29th of last month, the case involving Professor A was received by the university's Gender Equality Counseling Center and is currently under investigation," adding, "Whether to discipline the professor will be decided based on the investigation results."
