[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (Acting Commissioner Kim Jin-hyun) held a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony on the 3rd at Pohang City Hall for the establishment of production factories by the medical corporation Hanseong Foundation and the industrial automation small and medium enterprise HMT.


The signing ceremony was attended by Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, Han Dong-seon, Chairman of the Medical Corporation Hanseong Foundation, and Noh Jun-taek, CEO of HMT Co., Ltd.


The Medical Corporation Hanseong Foundation plans to invest 4.3 billion KRW by 2021 to build a 2,700㎡ building on a 4,132㎡ site within the Pohang Convergence Technology Industrial Complex for clinical laboratories and production factories dedicated to stem cell therapeutic research and development. Pohang City explained that Hanseong Foundation, which has moved beyond operating existing hospitals such as Semyung Hospital, is expanding its business area to research and development for stem cell therapeutic platform development, raising expectations for changes in the local bio industry.


HMT Co., Ltd. plans to invest 3.1 billion KRW by 2023 to build a 2,000㎡ production factory on a 3,006㎡ site within the Pohang Convergence Technology Industrial Complex for the development of an insulation resistance measurement system for stacked ceramic capacitors. The company is a small and medium enterprise supporting the technological capabilities of domestic advanced technology research institutes such as the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory through its accelerator control system business.


Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, expressed his expectations, saying, "I hope the Pohang Convergence Complex will lead K-Bio and advance Korea’s materials, parts, and equipment to the forefront," adding, "The Medical Corporation Hanseong Foundation will lead K-Bio, and HMT will lead materials, parts, and equipment, making Gyeongsangbuk-do a growth hub after COVID-19."


Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, said, "Now Pohang will lead new industries with bio and advanced measurement," and added, "Companies incubated in Pohang so far will expand their scale, make new investments, and start new businesses."
