Gyeongsan-si Selected for 'National Fitness Certification Center' Project ... Serving as a Hub in Southern Gyeongbuk Region

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsan City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 3rd that it has been selected as a new program operating institution in the 'National Fitness 100 Fitness Certification Center' contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.

The 'National Fitness 100 Fitness Certification Center' is a government-level project that started in 2012 to motivate citizens' voluntary participation in sports and provide scientific fitness management services. Currently, 58 National Fitness Certification Centers are operating nationwide.

In this contest, nine local governments nationwide, including Gyeongsan City, were selected. These local governments will receive a total project budget of about 150 million won, including operating expenses and personnel costs for fitness improvement programs, as well as all fitness measurement equipment, until December this year.

Accordingly, Gyeongsan City plans to establish the center at the Kirin Gymnasium of Daegu Haany University in early July and provide systematic exercise health science programs to local residents. Once the center opens, any local citizen aged 13 or older will be able to receive services such as fitness measurement, fitness evaluation, exercise prescription, and fitness certification services.

Choi Young-jo, Mayor of Gyeongsan City, welcomed the attraction of the center, saying, "After the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), various health management programs for citizens are necessary," and "The Fitness Certification Center will greatly contribute to citizens' health and longevity through fitness measurement and health promotion classes."
