[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) received a sponsorship donation of 30 million KRW for the Nowon Care SOS project from Samjeong Accounting Corporation.
The Nowon Care SOS project began in July 2018 in all 19 neighborhoods to assist residents in urgent need of care. Care managers, including social welfare officers and nursing officers, are assigned within the neighborhood community centers to comprehensively respond to local care demands.
Residents requiring urgent care can apply for services at the Care SOS center located in the neighborhood community center without individually contacting health centers, welfare centers, or other institutions. The care manager visits within 72 hours and connects them to necessary services from local care institutions.
This sponsorship from Samjeong Accounting Corporation is related to the company’s culture of social contribution and sharing. Samjeong Accounting Corporation is the second largest accounting firm in Korea and is well known for its continuous social contribution activities through sharing.
Since 2005, it has operated an in-house social welfare committee to conduct systematic activities in various fields. In 2011, it established the Samjeong Love Sharing Association, focusing on supporting marginalized groups and social welfare facilities.
It is also notable that employees voluntarily participate in volunteer activities, adhering to the principle of practicing “continuous sharing” rather than one-time sponsorships. Approximately 500 employees and their families participate in sharing activities annually.
The 30 million KRW sponsorship for the Nowon Care SOS project was also raised through small contributions from 1,500 employees.
Executive Director Im Geun-gu said, “The Nowon Care SOS project aligns well with our corporation’s social contribution goals, so we gladly decided to support it,” adding, “We are rather grateful to Nowon-gu Office for giving us this opportunity to share.”
The corporation has consistently carried out activities such as delivering daily necessities to disabled and low-income elderly people, “Love Basket” volunteer activities, kimchi making, briquette sharing, housing environment improvement, and bakery volunteer work.
Activities for the disabled are also remarkable. In September 2017, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled to establish employment infrastructure for the disabled and introduce various jobs for people with severe disabilities. In February 2018, it opened “Paran Happiness,” the industry’s first subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled.
To date, a total of 34 disabled workers have been employed. These disabled workers provide services such as cafeteria, printing, health keeping for the visually impaired, cleaning, and administrative support to employees.
Additionally, April and May are designated as “Social Contribution Months,” during which employees gather eco-friendly products they made themselves and sell them at internal bazaars, donating all proceeds to neighbors in need.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We are grateful that a leading domestic accounting firm has taken interest in Nowon-gu’s projects,” and added, “I hope that cooperation between such companies and public institutions will strengthen public service accessibility and implement customized policies for vulnerable groups.”
The sponsorship from Samjeong Accounting Corporation will be used for low-income families through the Nowon Education Welfare Foundation.
