Establishment of 'Smart Pass Temperature Measurement System' Utilizing 4th Industrial Technology... Accurate Facial Recognition and Temperature Measurement Possible Even with Mask Wearing
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has introduced a ‘Smart Pass Temperature Measurement System’ utilizing 4th industrial technology (AI) to establish a strengthened prevention system amid the spread of secondary infections originating from Itaewon clubs.
The newly installed ‘Smart Pass Temperature Measurement System’ compensates for the shortcomings of previously used thermal cameras and non-contact thermometers. It enables accurate facial recognition and temperature measurement even while wearing masks, and allows unmanned measurement, thereby preventing administrative resource consumption.
Additionally, when an abnormal temperature is detected, an automatic alarm sounds, and if a person enters without wearing a mask, a recommendation message to wear one is announced, raising awareness of compliance with quarantine rules.
The district first installed the Smart Pass Temperature Measurement System at the entrance of the Administrative Support Building on the 29th of last month and is currently testing the device’s accuracy and speed. By early June, a total of six units will be installed at the Civil Service Welfare Building, Safety Management Building, Public Health Center, and others for pilot operation. Plans to expand its use to community service centers and multi-use facilities are under review.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “As secondary infections from Itaewon clubs continue to spread, we judged that a strengthened quarantine system is necessary and decided to reinforce the heat detection system. Through this unmanned heat detector, we expect to alleviate residents’ anxiety, enhance psychological safety, and proactively respond to the new daily life changes requiring constant mask-wearing.”
Since early March, the district has mandated temperature checks and hand sanitization for all visitors entering public institutions to prevent infections in daily life, welcoming civil petitioners accordingly.
