[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] One day before the third day of in-person classes, 534 kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide adjusted their in-person class schedules due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Among them, 99% were in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The Ministry of Education announced on the 2nd at 10 a.m. that 534 schools in 5 cities and provinces had adjusted their in-person class schedules. As of the 1st, 77 out of 607 schools started in-person classes, and 4 schools adjusted their in-person class dates.
Specifically, there were 27 locations in Seoul, 153 in Bupyeong, Incheon, and 251 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, totaling 531 locations. The remaining were 1 in Busan, and 1 each in Gumi and Gyeongsan, Gyeongbuk Province.
A total of 43,968 students who underwent diagnostic testing after attending school were reported, among whom 5 tested positive and 36,491 tested negative. The remaining 7,472 are still undergoing testing.
Regarding 240 nationwide dormitory-operating schools, diagnostic tests were conducted on residents and others, resulting in 2 positive cases. Testing is ongoing for the remaining 15,655 individuals.
