[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Yoon Mo (48), a Korean national, has been sent to the prosecution on charges of habitual theft while touring various parts of Japan.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun on the 2nd, the Hyogo Prefectural Police Investigation Division 3 and Kobe Nishi Police Station additionally sent Yoon to the prosecution yesterday on charges of theft and trespassing. Yoon is accused of traveling around nine major regions in Japan, including Hyogo, Osaka, and Aichi, from May to November last year, targeting vacant houses and stealing cash, rings, necklaces, and other valuables. It is reported that Yoon admitted to stealing goods worth approximately 33 million yen (about 380 million KRW) in a total of 81 cases.
During the police investigation, Yoon reportedly stated, "I heard from an acquaintance that compared to Korea, Japan has fewer security cameras, making it easier to steal, so I came to Japan." Yoon visited Japan three times and mainly chose suburban residential areas with fewer security cameras to commit thefts.
