[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) paid respects at the Memorial Tower of the National Seoul National Cemetery on June 1st, the first day of the Month of Patriots and Veterans and Memorial Week, expressing respect and gratitude to the patriotic martyrs.
On the first day of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, June 1st, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il visited the National Seoul National Cemetery together with the heads of nine veterans' organizations' branches, spending a meaningful time reflecting on history.
The veterans' organization presidents who participated in the memorial service were ▲ Jeong Dong-ung, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Liberation Association ▲ Choi Soon-ryeol, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Disabled Veterans Association ▲ Kim Dae-woo, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Bereaved Families of War Veterans Association ▲ Moon Ok-il, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Widows of War Veterans Association ▲ Jo Young-gil, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Merit Awardees Association ▲ Kang Yong-bae, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Korean War Veterans Association ▲ Heo Nam-mok, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Vietnam War Veterans Association ▲ Shin Dae-young, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Agent Orange Veterans Association ▲ Kim Hyung-bok, President of the Yeongdeungpo Branch of the Special Mission Merit Awardees Association, totaling nine members.
After the memorial service, Mayor Chae Hyun-il wrote in the guestbook, “Inheriting the will of the patriotic martyrs, we will build a just nation and a wide-open Yeongdeungpo,” expressing his respect for the national merit recipients.
Thereafter, Mayor Chae promised to do his best to expand support so that veterans' organizations and national merit recipients receive proper honors.
In celebration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, the district plans to plant a tree commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Korean War and provide opportunities to reflect on the history of Yeongdeungpo-gu, which was a fierce battleground for the defense of the Han River during the Korean War, allowing residents to remember history together.
Mayor Chae said, “It is thanks to the noble sacrifice and dedication of national merit recipients and their families that the Republic of Korea was built from the devastating ruins of war,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a just society where national merit recipients are more respected and a wide-open Yeongdeungpo.”
