Man in his 50s Sets Fire to Wife Who Fled Domestic Violence, Seriously Injured...


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A man in his 50s who set fire to his wife’s body after visiting her separately to escape domestic violence was arrested by the police.


According to Daegu Gangbuk Police Station on the 1st, A (53) visited a one-room apartment in Seobyeon-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, where his wife was living, around 9:46 p.m. the previous day, poured a flammable substance on his wife and himself, and set it on fire.


The wife suffered second-degree burns on her face, body, and both arms and is receiving hospital treatment. Mr. A also sustained second-degree burns on his left arm and chest.


The fire burned a 10㎡ area in the one-room apartment corridor on the first floor (estimated damage of 510,000 KRW by the fire department) and was extinguished within 4 minutes. Five people in the apartment building evacuated due to the fire.


It is known that Mr. A had even received a restraining order from the court for repeatedly committing domestic violence against his wife.


A police official said, "The husband went to the place where the wife had taken refuge due to domestic violence," and added, "We will decide whether to detain him after treatment and investigation."
