[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 1st that from the 2nd to the 19th, it will conduct guidance inspections on safety inspections and emissions inspections at private vehicle inspection centers in the area, in collaboration with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and the Inspection and Maintenance Association.
This guidance inspection is conducted to prevent poor inspections such as manipulation by private inspection centers, omission of some inspection items, and tolerance of illegal tuning.
The main inspection items include whether precision calibration of emission and smoke measurement equipment is performed, securing technical personnel, and the quality of inspection photo records. In particular, it will focus on whether emissions inspections for diesel vehicles, the main cause of fine dust, are inadequate and on illegally tuned vehicles that directly affect vehicle safety.
The inspection targets were selected based on the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's pre-monitoring results, focusing on places with many complaints, places with a failure rate below 10%, and inspection centers where the smoke measurement value is often ‘0’ in detailed emissions inspections.
If violations are detected as a result of the inspection, strong administrative measures such as business suspension will be taken according to relevant regulations.
