[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The National Credit Union Federation of Korea (NACUFOK) announced on the 1st that Chairman Park Cha-hoon participated as a special lecturer at the "Dialogue Conference with the People on Uganda's Economic Situation," co-hosted by the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) and UN agencies in Uganda.
The conference was broadcast over two days, on the 28th and 29th of last month, via Uganda's state broadcaster NBS TV and social media. Chairman Park delivered a video message sharing the successful experience of Saemaul Geumgo and words of encouragement for overcoming COVID-19.
He also shared the achievements of spreading Saemaul Geumgo in rural areas of Uganda's Mpigi and Mityana districts, a project being promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and KOICA.
Although the Ugandan government has effectively contained the spread of the coronavirus through strong measures including a full border lockdown, industries heavily dependent on overseas markets have reportedly suffered significant impacts.
Saemaul Geumgo, Korea's self-reliant indigenous cooperative model, is gaining attention. Currently, 11 Saemaul Geumgo branches are operating in Uganda.
