[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] On May 30, Pohang City in Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 1st that it conducted disinfection using drones (ultra-light flying devices) in the temporarily opened railway forest section near the old Pohang Station.
Drone disinfection is a pilot project promoted by Pohang City starting this year to eliminate blind spots for sanitary pests such as mosquitoes. It is planned to be carried out 18 times in total, three times a month from 7 a.m. for more than two hours until November, targeting blind spots for disinfection such as the temporarily opened Pohang Railway Forest section and large vacant lots.
Sanitary pest drone disinfection is being promoted in some local governments such as Namyangju, Gimpo, and Jinju, but Pohang is the first in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Park Hyekyung, head of the Buk-gu Public Health Center, said, "Starting this year, to efficiently eliminate blind spots for disinfection, we have introduced drone disinfection on a trial basis in places where mosquitoes and other sanitary pests are prevalent but disinfection vehicles and personnel cannot access," adding, "We will continue to devise various disinfection methods tailored to the characteristics of vulnerable areas."
