Operation of Mock Interview Classes for Students in December ... "Support for Early Admission Response Strategies"

Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Develops and Distributes In-depth Interview Questions for College Admission Early Screening

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 1st that it will develop in-depth interview questions starting in July to prepare for the 2021 college entrance exams and distribute them to individual schools. Additionally, in December, it plans to operate mock interview classes for students to support strategies for early admission recruitment.

This in-depth interview program development is a measure to support the enhancement of college entrance expertise at individual schools amid the shortened academic schedule and delayed in-person classes due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). It was prepared in response to major metropolitan universities selecting students through passage-based or document-based in-depth interviews in the student record comprehensive screening process.

The Daegu city office explained that a TF team composed of about 20 teachers and a teachers' research group reviewed and analyzed university-specific advance learning impact assessment reports, which included past questions, and met with university representatives to understand the intent and trends of university-specific questions.

Based on the analysis of MMI (Multiple Mini Interview) questions conducted by medical schools, they developed solutions and approaches to questions by humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and science fields, as well as anticipated questions.

Last year, the Office of Education classified and analyzed passage-based and document-based in-depth interview experiences and past interview questions by major through successful candidates, developed sample questions, and plans to distribute them to schools as well as operate in-depth interview classes in December.

The passage-based in-depth interview class will be held over three days from December 8 to 10, the week after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), targeting about 80 students recommended by schools. The document-based in-depth interview class is scheduled for December 14, targeting 160 students recommended by schools.

A Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education official said, "Through this program, students can prepare for in-depth interviews on their own, and it will serve as a model of trusted public education by strengthening the college entrance competitiveness of individual schools and enhancing teacher expertise, thereby reducing private education expenses." He added, "We will proactively respond to changes in the admissions environment, such as changes in CSAT subjects according to the 2015 revised curriculum and discussions on introducing written and essay-type questions in the CSAT."
