[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A woman in her 30s was assaulted without provocation by an unidentified man at Seoul Station, prompting the police to launch an investigation. However, since the incident occurred in a blind spot of the closed-circuit television (CCTV), the police are having difficulty identifying the suspect.
The Seoul Railroad Police announced on the 31st of last month that they are investigating the assault case involving a woman that took place inside Seoul Station.
The victim, Ms. A (32), was assaulted by an unidentified man near an ice cream specialty store inside Seoul Station at around 1:50 p.m. on the 26th. The man reportedly fled along the model taxi stand near Exit 15 of Seoul Station immediately after the assault.
As a result of the incident, Ms. A sustained injuries including a laceration near her left eye and a depressed cheekbone.
During the police investigation, Ms. A stated, "While I was riding the escalator heading toward the Airport Railroad entrance, a man approached and bumped into my shoulder. He then cursed and hit my face."
The incident became widely known after being shared over 9,000 times on social networking services (SNS) on the 1st under the hashtag #SeoulStationRandomAssault.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
