[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Joo-hee] Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong denied reports that he had been in contact with former National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee Chairman Yoon Sang-hyun, calling them "fake news."
On the 31st, Joshua Wong posted on his Twitter, "Recently, there have been reports in Korea that I requested a meeting with National Assembly member Yoon Sang-hyun and that I expressed my gratitude to him," adding, "I have neither contacted nor been contacted by Representative Yoon. This is fake news."
He continued, "I appreciate the interest shown in Hong Kong democracy, but this situation is a bit embarrassing for me."
Earlier, a media outlet reported that Joshua Wong had expressed gratitude regarding former Chairman Yoon's stance against the Hong Kong National Security Law.
According to the report, Joshua Wong and former Chairman Yoon discussed ways to make contact, including video calls.
In this regard, former Chairman Yoon stated to a media outlet on the 29th, "A request to meet came through a third party," and added, "They suggested a video call, but I politely declined."
When asked "Who is the third party?" former Chairman Yoon reportedly said, "I don't know exactly whether it was a civic group or somewhere else."
