Voluntary Participation of Faculty and Staff, Deduction of Over 100,000 Won per Person from Salary or Cash Donation Decided
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A fundraising campaign to help enrolled students who are struggling to continue their studies due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic is being held at Ulsan University.
Ulsan University announced on the 31st that it will conduct a fundraising campaign targeting all faculty and staff to raise the ‘COVID-19 Scholarship Fund.’
This fundraising campaign, conducted after deliberation by the university's academic committee, will take place from June 1 to 10 with the voluntary participation of about 1,300 faculty and staff members. The fundraising method involves deducting a desired donation amount of at least 100,000 KRW per person from salaries through the university’s internal network or making cash donations.
In the fundraising notice, President Oh Yeon-cheon of Ulsan University appealed for participation, saying, “By helping enrolled students, let us create an opportunity to overcome the COVID-19 disaster, enhance our pride as university members, and contribute to the development of the local community.”
Ulsan University plans to distribute the COVID-19 scholarships to financially struggling enrolled students after completing the fundraising campaign and following the necessary procedures.
According to the university’s own survey, out of approximately 12,000 enrolled students, about 120 are identified as having great difficulty continuing their studies due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
Meanwhile, President Oh is known to serve as co-chair of ‘Ulsan Geun Dure,’ the first public-private consultative body formed nationwide to overcome COVID-19, acting as a bridge between local government and civil society.
