20th COVID-19 Case Confirmed in Jeonnam... Overseas Entrant

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Following the occurrence of a COVID-19 confirmed case in Jeonnam on the 30th, an additional confirmed case was reported just one day later.

According to Jeonnam Province on the 31st, a man in his 30s, Mr. A, who entered from Mexico, was confirmed as the 20th COVID-19 case in Jeonnam.

Mr. A, an office worker, had been studying language in Mexico since September last year and returned to the company upon its order. On the morning of the 30th, he entered the country via Incheon International Airport, transiting through Los Angeles Airport in the United States.

He immediately entered the temporary inspection facility in Jeonnam Province using the KTX overseas arrivals exclusive car at Gwangmyeong Station.

On the day of admission, the Jeonnam Health and Environment Research Institute conducted a COVID-19 diagnostic test, which returned positive, and he is currently hospitalized in a negative pressure room at Suncheon Medical Center.

He has shown no symptoms from the time of arrival at Incheon Airport until now during hospitalization.

So far, the identified contacts are two overseas arrivals who shared the ride from Gwangmyeong Station to the temporary inspection facility, all of whom have tested negative.

Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “We will continue to operate the temporary inspection facility to preemptively block overseas inflows,” and added, “We ask residents to thoroughly follow personal quarantine rules such as habitual mask-wearing and refraining from going out when feeling unwell.”

Meanwhile, among the 20 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jeonnam so far, 12 are overseas arrivals.
