The Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) and Genesis recently extended their sponsorship contract for the Korean Tour's Order of Merit points and prize money rankings. The contract runs through 2023. The first-place prize for the Order of Merit points ranking is 100 million KRW and a Genesis car as a prize, with a total bonus of 300 million KRW awarded to the 'Top 10'. This year, part of the bonus will be paid in advance as encouragement money to support players struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Genesis Championship, boasting the largest prize money in Korea (total prize money of 1.5 billion KRW), is scheduled to open as planned on October 8 at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Songdo, Incheon. It is a special match that offers invitations to the only PGA Tour event in Korea, The CJ Cup, and the Genesis Invitational in the United States. Last year, 'PGA Tour Rookie of the Year' Im Sung-jae (22, CJ Logistics) made a dramatic comeback by overturning a 7-stroke deficit on the final day, drawing even more spotlight.
