Lee Jae-myung's 'Youth Basic Income' Payment Advanced by 3 Months... 250,000 Won Quarterly

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The application period for the third quarter (July to September) of the 'Youth Basic Income,' a key youth policy of Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, will be held from the 1st to the 22nd of next month.

Gyeonggi Province originally planned to accept applications for the third quarter of this year's 'Youth Basic Income' starting in September and to make payments on October 20. However, to provide prompt support to youths and small business owners struggling due to COVID-19, the schedule was moved up by about three months. Accordingly, payments will begin on July 10.

The eligible applicants are 24-year-old youths born between July 2, 1995, and July 1, 1996, who have continuously resided in Gyeonggi Province for more than three years or whose total days of residence add up to more than ten years, and who currently have their resident registration in Gyeonggi Province.

Eligible youths can apply online or via mobile by signing up as members on the Gyeonggi Province job platform Jobaba (apply.jobaba.net).

Applicants need to prepare a resident registration abstract (issued after June 1, including address history for the last five years or the entire period). Youths who applied in advance for automatic application in the previous quarter will be subject to review without a separate application.

After verifying the applicant's age and residence period, the province will pay 250,000 KRW in local currency for the third quarter starting from July 10, either in the form of an electronic card or mobile payment.

Selected recipients will receive a confirmation message via text, and the card will be delivered to the address entered during application.

After receiving the card, registering it through the customer center or mobile app will allow immediate use like a check card at traditional markets and small business establishments within the registered area, spending it freely like cash.

However, usage is restricted at department stores, large supermarkets, corporate supermarkets (SSM), entertainment establishments, and similar venues.

For more details, contact the youth welfare department of each city/county, the Gyeonggi Province call center (031-120), or the internet portal 'Jobaba.'
