[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] LG Electronics introduced the latest OLED TV technology to an elementary school student who loves watching TV.

On the 31st, according to LG Electronics, the company recently received a handwritten letter from Ki Chaeyoung, a 5th-grade elementary school student living in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

The letter contained Ki Chaeyoung’s story: “I love watching TV very much, but I am worried that I might have to wear glasses soon because of the blue light coming from the screen.”

It also included the question, “Is there a TV that does not emit blue light?” and the request, “Please invent and make a TV at LG Electronics that does not harm the eyes.”

LG Electronics also sent a reply to Ki Chaeyoung. While expressing gratitude for her letter, they proposed an opportunity to introduce the technology of LG OLED TVs, which significantly reduce blue light and are comfortable for the eyes even after long hours of viewing. Last week, Ki Chaeyoung visited the LG Twin Towers in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, along with a friend.

LG Electronics provided an easy-to-understand explanation tailored to children about the structural differences of TVs depending on the presence or absence of backlight and about blue light. In particular, Ki Chaeyoung was amazed as she wore specially made glasses and directly observed the difference in the amount of blue light emitted from OLED TVs and LCD TVs.

Park Hyungse, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ HE Business Division, who arranged this meeting, thanked Ki Chaeyoung for her wonderful suggestion and promised, “We will continue to make eye-friendly TVs like OLED TVs that emit less blue light.”

All LG OLED TVs released by LG Electronics are equipped with LG Display’s OLED panels, which have been certified as ‘Low Blue Light Display’ by the U.S. safety certification organization UL (Underwriters Laboratory).

The OLED panels have also been certified as ‘Eye Comfort Display’ by the German testing and certification organization TUV Rheinland. The blue light emission of OLED TVs is only about half of the harmlessness standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Vice President Park emphasized, “We will continue our efforts to make LG OLED TVs the TVs that customers dream of and lead the premium TV market.”
