Donation of 14.42 Million Won for Renovation of Old Houses in Low-Income Grandparent-Grandchild Families
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) completed the construction of ‘Hope House No. 14’ in collaboration with Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. (Factory Manager Lee Young-jae) to improve the housing environment of low-income welfare crisis households and held a plaque ceremony on the 28th.
The event was attended by about 40 people, including Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. Factory Manager Lee Young-jae, Kim Jong-jin, Director of Ssangbong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Kim Man-gon, Chairman of the Hwayang-myeon Community Security Council.
Hope House No. 14 was an old house over 40 years old in Hwayang-myeon, where the ceiling leaked rain exposing it to fire risk, the floor had no covering making it vulnerable to cold, the rooms were cluttered with all sorts of junk, and the boiler did not work properly, forcing the entire family to live in one room under poor housing conditions. In particular, the student in adolescence lived in the same room with family members without a study room.
Upon hearing this unfortunate story from the city, Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. promptly expressed their willingness to sponsor and donated 14.42 million KRW.
Ssangbong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center and Cheongwon Construction cooperated to install sash windows on the floor, carry out electrical and insulation work on the ceiling, install a boiler, and replace wallpaper and flooring, among other overall renovation works, creating a comfortable and cozy study room and a safe new home.
Lee Young-jae, Factory Manager of Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd., said, “One of the important goals of a company is to grow together with the local community. I believe that not hesitating to provide support when help is needed is a way to grow, and we will continue to strive to carry out ongoing social contribution activities.”
Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong said, “I thank Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. for generously and actively supporting our city’s request despite the difficult situation caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Above all, I am very happy to provide a warm study room for a student in adolescence who is nurturing their dreams. We will continue to actively discover those in need and work to make Yeosu a city where smiles bloom on the faces of all citizens and hope is embraced.”
