Governor Lee Cheol-woo Launches "Run Again Gyeongbuk" Slogan... Relay Meetings with 23 Cities and Counties


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced that Governor Lee Cheol-woo started the 'Run Again Gyeongbuk' livelihood and economic field meetings with cities, counties, institutions, and social organizations within the province from the 28th.


At the field meetings, Governor Lee personally visited the sites to meet residents from various sectors and communicate about tourism and regional economic revitalization. He plans to actively reflect the diverse opinions presented at the meetings into provincial administration.


On the first day, the 28th, Governor Lee held the 'Pohang Regional Economic Revitalization Meeting' at the Pohang City Hall main conference room to establish new growth industries in Gyeongbuk and future development strategies for the East Sea region in response to the 'post-COVID-19' era. The meeting was attended by representatives from Pohang's economic sector, including Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang, National Assembly members Kim Jeong-jae and Kim Byeong-wook (elect), Chairman Jang Gyeong-sik of the Provincial Council, Vice President Park Jun-won of POSTECH, Nam Soo-hee, Manager of Pohang Steelworks, and Kim Jae-dong, Chairman of the Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, adding vitality to the discussions.


Following the introduction of Gyeongbuk-type Economic New Deal's 10 major policies by Kim Ho-jin, Director of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Jobs and Economy, Dr. Kim Byeong-tae of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Institute presented the 'Pohang Mega Science City Industrial Development Plan,' emphasizing that Pohang, which has grown from a fishing city to a steel industry city, must transform into a mega science city in the future.


In the presentation on future development strategies for the East Sea region, Dr. Lee Moon-sook of KOIST explained the plan to promote the Homigot Peninsula National Marine Garden project linked with the Yeongilman Bridge, and Dr. Kwon Hyuk-jun of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Institute described future development plans for the East Sea region through smart marine and fisheries industries such as aquaculture using 4th industrial technologies.

The 'Run Again Gyeongbuk' field meetings continued in Yeongdeok County in the afternoon. The Yeongdeok Livelihood and Economic Meeting, chaired by Governor Lee Cheol-woo, was attended by Yeongdeok County Mayor Lee Hee-jin, National Assembly member Kim Hee-guk (elect), and Chairman Jo Ju-hong of the Provincial Council's Culture and Environment Committee, among others, who engaged in active discussions focusing on strategies to revitalize regional development investment and projects to revive the local economy.


At the Yeongdeok meeting, all institutions and social organizations launched the '心心相印 Yeongdeok Campaign' to signify their participation in revitalizing the local economy. Notably, Mayor Lee Hee-jin designated Governor Lee as a challenge target, and Governor Lee in turn designated Lee Sang-won, head of NH Nonghyup Bank Yeongdeok branch, as a challenge target in a relay performance that attracted attention.


Governor Lee stated, "After the launch ceremony of the 'Run Again Gyeongbuk Pan-Citizen Promotion Committee' on the 25th, I have resolved to run again from today at the livelihood and economic field sites. I will do my best to personally visit the livelihood and economic sites of cities and counties and take care of livelihood and economy one by one."


Meanwhile, Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to continue the series of city and county livelihood and economic field meetings in a relay format from the end of May, including the Yeongju Small Business Y-Sale Campaign and meeting, Uiseong Cell Culture Material Industry Meeting, Seongju Hope Economy PangPang Talk Concert, Gumi Industrial Complex Grand Remodeling Gyeongbuk Chamber of Commerce Economic Report Meeting, Andong Gyeongbuk Tourism Boom-up Policy Meeting, Gyeongsan Startup Incubation Revitalization Meeting, and Cheongdo Downtown Revitalization Economic Meeting.
