[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Yoon Mee-hyang, the elected member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, has recently been embroiled in allegations of accounting fraud and misuse of donations related to the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeondae). In this context, Seol Hoon, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, stated that "there are many parts that have been miscommunicated about Representative Yoon."

Seol appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 28th and said, "I understand that Representative Yoon is currently conducting a thorough review of her bank accounts and the expenditures she has made so far."

Regarding the reason why Representative Yoon is reviewing her accounts, he added, "I think it is necessary to clarify the facts and falsehoods about this. Only after this process will there be opinions such as whether to punish her or that 'there is no particular problem' or 'the media has exaggerated the issue excessively.'"

He also mentioned grandmother Lee Yong-soo, a victim of the Japanese military sexual slavery, saying, "There are some who speak ill of this grandmother, but I think that is wrong. She is a victim who suffered pain, so our society has a fundamental duty to protect her."

Seol then said, "I think we should carefully observe both sides and proceed with the situation. It is necessary for Representative Yoon to explain this situation quickly."

When asked about Representative Yoon's press conference, he said, "I do not know the exact date, but I heard that preparations are underway."

Seol also stated, "Representative Yoon has properly informed the world about the comfort women issue for 30 years. I think we should not be too stingy in recognizing her contributions. However, I believe there may be problems that arose during those 30 years of work. Those issues should be examined accordingly. In that process, the distinction between public and private matters must be made clearly, but almost everything is being dragged out in a personal attack style. However, upon closer inspection, many parts that are not true have been exaggerated. Therefore, I believe Representative Yoon will have points to claim as unfair."
