[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 28th that on the 27th, it signed a business agreement with Haekwang Transport Co., Ltd. to operate a 1000-won passenger ferry to improve transportation convenience for island residents.
At the agreement ceremony, the county and Haekwang Transport Co., Ltd. pledged to actively cooperate with each other to ensure the smooth operation of the 1000-won passenger ferry.
The county has been actively promoting requests for increased national and provincial subsidies and the enactment of ordinances for the operation of the 1000-won passenger ferry to realize universal maritime transportation welfare for vulnerable island residents, similar to the 100-won taxi introduced to alleviate transportation inconveniences for residents in rural fishing villages.
Through this agreement, island residents will only need to pay a flat fee of 1000 won to the ferry company regardless of the distance traveled starting from the 1st of next month, instead of the previous fares of 3300 won for Nakwoldo, 4800 won for Songido, and 5000 won for Anmado.
Governor Kim Junsung said, “With the operation of the 1000-won passenger ferry, we plan to reduce the economic burden on island residents, improve living conditions, and attract many tourists to the islands through various island development projects.”
