[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A public official in his 40s who was caught driving under the influence was booked after punching a police officer who requested a breathalyzer test.


On the 28th, the Muan Police Station in Jeollanam-do announced that they have detained and are investigating A (40), a public official at the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office, on charges of obstruction of official duties and violation of the Road Traffic Act.


A is accused of driving under the influence on a road in Namak New Town, Samhyang-eup, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, around 10 p.m. on the 27th, and punching police officer B, who requested a breathalyzer test, once with his fist.


According to the police investigation, A was found sleeping after parking in the opposite direction on the roadside shoulder, and when the police officer who responded to the report requested a breathalyzer test, A attempted to flee.


It is reported that A struggled with the police officer for about 20 minutes before resorting to violence.


A’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.111%, which is at the level for license cancellation.


The police plan to conduct a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances involving A.
