According to Korea Railroad on the 28th, the free transportation service began on February 28. The purpose is to support medical personnel who are working hard on the front lines of COVID-19.
As a result, from the day the service started until the 27th of this month, an average of about 30 medical personnel per day, totaling 3,024, used the trains free of charge. They also used station parking lots free of charge.
By train type, the number of users was 2,599 (85.9%) on KTX and 425 (14.1%) on general trains such as Mugunghwa and ITX-Saemaeul.
Regarding travel routes, most medical personnel moved from the metropolitan area to Daegu (1,346 cases, 44.5%) and Gyeongbuk (372 cases, 12.3%), which aligns with the original purpose of implementing the free transportation service.
Hong Seung-pyo, head of customer marketing at Korea Railroad, said, “Thanks to the dedication of medical volunteers, we gain hope to return to normal life,” and added, “We hope that our respect and gratitude are conveyed to the medical staff using the trains.”
