[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A man in his 20s who traveled across the country producing sexually exploitative videos involving 11 minors and committing sexual assault has been sent to the prosecution in custody.
Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced on the 28th that on the 20th, they arrested A (29) on charges including violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles Against Sexual Abuse and sent him to the prosecution in custody with a recommendation for indictment.
A is suspected of approaching 11 youths nationwide from September last year until his arrest on the 11th of this month to produce sexually exploitative videos. It is reported that the videos produced by A amount to a total of 231 items, including 195 photos and 36 videos.
The victims were young adolescents aged between 13 and 17, who were confirmed to have been exposed to the crimes without seeking help from those around them.
A approached an unspecified number of youths using KakaoTalk open chat rooms, Facebook Messenger, and other platforms, gaining their trust by offering counseling and sending emoticon gifts, then demanded sexually exploitative materials and resorted to blackmail and threats against the victims.
During this process, he showed meticulous criminal methods such as playing dual roles using prepaid USIM phones and dual numbers.
Additionally, he directly visited the victims to commit further crimes such as sexual assault and prostitution, and after filming these acts, threatened to distribute the sexually exploitative materials.
When he failed to commit sexual assault, he approached the victims again using another account pretending to be someone else, lied that the sexually exploitative materials had been distributed, and attempted sexual assault and prostitution again.
A reportedly continued to threaten the victims by saying things like "Even if you report to the police, I am untraceable."
It has been confirmed that A did not sell or redistribute the videos online or through other means.
