JD Marvelous and IT Sign Business Agreement
Develop Alternative Animal Registration Technology and Plan Commercialization Within the Year
Prevent Stray Dogs by Linking Guardians with Biometric Data Registration
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Jeong-su] Petdoc, an integrated care platform for companion animals, announced on the 28th that it has signed a business agreement with JD Marvelous, a technology-based content company, and AIT, a long-distance iris recognition technology company. Petdoc plans to commercialize within this year the world's first 'Companion Animal Recognition Focus System' developed based on iris tracking and recognition technology in collaboration with its partners.
This system simultaneously recognizes the iris, nose print, and face of a companion animal as it passes through a designated space. After individual recognition, identity authentication and individual information are transmitted to a specified device. This significantly improves the inaccuracy of existing recognition methods that distinguish individuals by recognizing the iris or nose print separately.
Petdoc has already confirmed the accuracy of the technology through prototype testing. Currently, it is working on applying and advancing the network system and improving device productivity. A company official expressed, "Using this technology, linking biometric data registration systems of dogs and their owners will be highly effective in preventing stray dogs and finding lost animals."
According to Petdoc, as the number of households owning companion animals increases worldwide, the companion animal-related industry is expanding into various sectors. However, environmental and health side effects such as stray and lost animals, safety accidents, and infectious diseases are also on the rise. Accordingly, there is a growing demand in the companion animal industry for individual differentiation and identity verification.
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced a legislative notice to strengthen the effectiveness of the animal registration system by restricting the use of identification tags among animal registration methods through amendments to the Enforcement Decree and Enforcement Rules of the Animal Protection Act. Additionally, through the '2020?2024 Comprehensive Animal Welfare Plan,' it has announced plans to promote policy research and development related to animal registration methods, including the use of biometric recognition.
Lee Tae-hyung, Chief Veterinarian (Director) of Petdoc, stated, "From an industrial utility perspective as well as a social dimension to create a healthy companion culture, standards for companion animal recognition are necessary," adding, "Accurate identification and management of companion animals is a very important issue."
Choi Seung-yong, CEO of Petdoc, anticipated, "By combining Petdoc's nationwide animal hospital network, platform operation know-how, and specialized data with the technology possessed by AIT, we can present a new milestone to the related industry and companion society."
