Hyundai-Kia Motors Factory Partially Suspends Operations Again... "Due to Export Decline Caused by COVID-19" (Comprehensive) [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] As the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) makes overseas sales difficult, Hyundai and Kia Motors factories will close some of their operations again next month.

Hyundai Motor announced on the 27th that the Porter production line at Ulsan Plant 4 will stop operations from June 1 to 5, and the Venue and Ioniq production lines at Ulsan Plant 3 will halt operations on June 11 and 12.

The reason for the temporary suspension of factory operations is the decrease in exports of the affected models due to the impact of COVID-19. As lockdown orders have been issued in major countries and dealerships have closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Hyundai Motor is facing difficulties in exports.

Previously, from the 6th to the 8th, production lines for Avante, Venue, and i30 were shut down for four days.

Kia Motors factories are also repeatedly suspending operations. The Sohari Plant 1 will be closed on the 1st to 2nd and 8th to 9th, and Plant 2 will be closed from the 1st to 3rd and 8th to 10th.

The production models at Sohari Plant 1 are Carnival, Stinger, and K9, while Plant 2 produces Pride and Stonic.

The Gwangju Plant will also close Plant 2 until the 5th of next month. Gwangju Plant 2, which produces Sportage and Soul, said it extended the originally scheduled shutdown from the 25th to the 29th.
