[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 27th that two additional COVID-19 confirmed cases have occurred.
Eunpyeong case number 33 (male, resident of Eungam 2-dong, Eunpyeong-gu) was confirmed positive at around 10:30 AM on the 27th after visiting the Eunpyeong-gu Public Health Center screening clinic during self-quarantine. It was revealed that he had contact on the 24th at a playground and his residence with Eunpyeong case number 32 (elementary school student, resident of Eungam 2-dong, Eunpyeong-gu), who was confirmed positive on the 26th.
He is currently waiting to be transferred to a government-designated isolation bed.
Additionally, Eunasae Daycare Center, which case number 33 attends, was immediately and temporarily closed as soon as case 33 was identified as a self-quarantine subject the previous day. After the positive confirmation on the 27th, disinfection was completed at Eunasae Daycare Center and the confirmed patient's residence, and rapid full testing is being conducted on about 80 children and staff members.
Among the four cohabitants of the confirmed patient, the mother, older brother, and younger sister tested negative, while the father is awaiting test results.
Eunpyeong-gu is making efforts to prevent further infections by sending official letters urging thorough disinfection to 239 daycare centers in the area on the 27th, the day a daycare child was confirmed positive.
Eunpyeong case number 34 (male, in his 40s, resident of Sinsa 1-dong, Eunpyeong-gu) is a Coupang logistics center employee who visited the Eunpyeong-gu Public Health Center screening clinic around 4 PM on the 26th and was confirmed positive at around 10:30 AM on the 27th.
The confirmed patient is currently waiting to be transferred to Seonam Hospital, a government-designated isolation hospital. Disinfection of the patient's residence and surrounding area has been completed, and the contact (wife) is under self-quarantine and scheduled to be tested today.
Epidemiological investigations are underway for the two newly confirmed cases, and additional information will be disclosed through the Eunpyeong-gu Office website.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “With kindergartens and elementary schools reopening sequentially, it is very concerning that a daycare child and a Coupang logistics center employee have been confirmed positive. Eunpyeong-gu will do its utmost to prevent further spread through thorough disinfection and contact tracing.”
