Gyeonggi-do to Publicly Release 81 Types of Regional Economy Big Data

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will publicly release 81 types of high-quality big data related to the regional economy, including employment rate forecasts by region and electricity usage status by region and industry. It will also provide a corporate location recommendation service based on client information.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will continue the "Regional Economy Big Data Platform and Center Construction Project," which was jointly signed with the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2019, this year as well.

The province was selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's big data platform and center construction project aimed at revitalizing the economy based on data, receiving a total of 10.27 billion KRW in national funding over three years until 2021.

Following the establishment of the big data platform called "Gyeonggi Regional Economy Portal (bigdata-region.kr)" last year, this year the province will focus on three areas: ▲ enhancing the value of data products ▲ upgrading the platform to improve user convenience ▲ and activating data usage.

First, to enhance the value of data products, the province will discover and provide data reflecting social issues such as COVID-19, and continuously manage the quality of collected data to newly provide 81 types of high-quality data products. Newly provided data includes export-import data of materials related to components and materials, regional employment rate forecast information, regional and industry-specific corporate financial forecast information, and electricity usage status by region and industry.

Additionally, to improve user convenience, the user interface (UI) will be revamped, and data diversification will be pursued through linkage with other big data platforms.

To activate data usage, an online analysis environment will be supported so that users can directly analyze and share data, and a "Data Analysis Result Sharing Service" will be provided.

Furthermore, when selecting corporate locations, a "Corporate Location Recommendation Service" will be offered to analyze information on companies holding raw materials for products produced by the company or companies that can supply the produced products, enabling the selection of optimal locations.

Earlier in January, the province launched the "Gyeonggi Regional Economy Portal (bigdata-region.kr)" service through the "Regional Economy Big Data Platform and Center Construction Project."

Lim Moon-young, Director of Future Growth Policy at the province, explained, "Last year, we focused our capabilities on building the platform, but this year will be the first year to lay the foundation for regional economic development through data by discovering many useful data for companies and small business owners and developing various innovative services utilizing this data."
