[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando County, Jeonnam (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 26th that it received the highest grade, ‘SA’, in the final results of the 2020 evaluation of the fulfillment of pledges and information disclosure for basic local government heads of the 7th local election term, announced by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters.

This evaluation, targeting basic local government heads nationwide in the 7th local election term, graded based on a 100-point scale according to five major evaluation categories: pledge fulfillment completion, 2019 goal achievement, resident communication, web communication, and pledge consistency.

Wando County has conducted quarterly self-inspections and evaluations to faithfully fulfill pledges, and introduced the ‘Resident Jury System,’ where residents directly inspect and evaluate the governor’s pledges, providing opportunities for residents to participate in county administration and presenting a new direction for communication.

Among the total 51 pledge projects of the 7th local election term Wando County governor, 13 projects have been completed or are continuing after completion, and the remaining projects are progressing normally.

In particular, for future key projects aimed at Wando’s leap onto the world stage, the marine healing industry and preparations for the 2021 Wando International Seaweed Expo, which has been approved as an international event for the third consecutive time, are underway. After declaring Wando as the ‘Clean Sea Capital of Korea,’ the county operates the Sea Guardians 365 Mobile Unit to carry out activities such as collecting marine debris from coastal ports and uninhabited islands.

Additionally, the county has continuously operated a mobile governor’s office that visits the living sites of residents (remote islands, fishing sites, agriculture and livestock industry, etc.), listening closely to the voices of the residents.

Moreover, efforts are being made to achieve co-growth in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock industries, aiming for the successful settlement of agriculture and livestock industries in their natural state in Wando.

Especially, the pledge contents and implementation details have been disclosed on the county website so that residents can easily understand and verify them, receiving favorable reviews for fulfilling residents’ right to know and promoting transparent administration.

The Manifesto Evaluation Team conducted the first evaluation by analyzing publicly available materials on local government websites over a month from March 2 to April 3. Subsequently, they provided opportunities for explanations regarding evaluation questions, comprehensively reviewed clarifications and supplementary materials, and conducted a strict yet objective evaluation before announcing the final results.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol of Wando County said, “We will not be satisfied with this evaluation and will do our best to ensure that the pledged projects promised to residents are implemented within the term.”
